‘Drunk’ woman rams car into a cab, injures five

New Delhi: A speeding Honda Amaze car being driven in the wrong carriagewa­y allegedly by a “drunk” woman rammed an app-based cab in west Delhi’s Madipur, injuring driver and four members of a family in the early hours of Sunday, police said. The accident took place around 1 am.

Police arrested the woman driver under the charges of drunken driving and driving in rash and negligent manner. She was later released on bail as the sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act under which she was booked were all bailable, said a police officer.

The 27-year-old woman driver, a resident of Paschim Vihar in west Delhi, was returning home with a female friend after attending a party when the accident took place, said police.

“The woman told us that she lost control of the car as she had consumed alcohol. A case was registered and we arrested her,” said Vijay Kumar, deputy commission­er of police (west).

A police officer privy to the case said the police control room was informed about the accident at 1.20 am. A police team reached the accident site and found a Honda Amaze and a Ritz (cab) damaged. Five occupants of the cab were injured and they were rushed to Maharaja Agrasen hospital.

“The injured included 40-yearold Vikas Saini, his wife Radhika,39, their two children — Gautam,15, and Vridhi,13, and cab driver Sonu, 25. The family was returning to their Paharganj home from Nangloi,” said the officer, adding that the injured persons were out of danger.

TRUCK TURNS TURTLE KILLS A CYCLIST

In another accident, a 40-year-old cyclist had a tragic end when a speeding container truck turned turtle and fell on him at Moolchand traffic signal in south Delhi’s Defence Colony on Saturday morning. The victim as well as his bicycle were badly crushed under the truck.

Police said the deceased was a private security guard. They had contacted the security company to establish his identity. The truck driver had fled the accident spot, leaving the vehicle behind. A case was registered and efforts were being made to nab the errant driver, said police.
