Gzb woman brutalised with iron rod on wedding night

GHAZIABAD: The family members of a 22-year-old newly wed woman approached the Baghpat police alleging that her husband brutalised her with an iron rod on their wedding night and demanded a car as dowry.

The family said the woman hails from Modinagar town of Ghaziabad and got married to a private teacher in Baghpat on July 8. Her brother said when he reached her in-laws’ house in Baghpat on July 9, the woman was found ailing and badly injured.

“I got suspicious and asked her in-laws the reason. They said it could be due to the heat. I took her to a hospital there and got her referred to a private hospital in Ghaziabad. The doctors said some rod-like object was inserted in her private parts, which caused internal injuries,” her brother said.

“Her in-laws were demanding a car as dowry. My sister had to undergo two surgeries and she is still in the hospital. She told us that her husband kept asking her to arrange for a car on their wedding night. He then forced her on the bed and inserted some object into her. Her internal organs were damaged in the brutal assault,” he said.

The family on Thursday also approached the Singhawali Ahir police station in Baghpat district of western UP with a complaint.

“We have received their complaint and are lodging an FIR of attempt to murder, domestic violence and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The incident narrated by the family is part of the investigation. We will approach the hospital authorities to know more about the nature and cause of her injuries,” Ombeer Singh, SHO of the Singhawali Ahir police station, said.
