GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad police on Sunday picked up a 22-yearold man saying that he confessed to raping and murdering 10-yearold girl after luring her to the fields.

The girl, a resident of a village in Bhojpur police station area, had gone missing from her house on May 22, police said.

According to the police, the body of the minor, who is believed to have been a student of class 3, was recovered from the fields adjoining her village falling in the Bhojpur police station area.

Bhojpur SHO Gyaneshar Boudh said that the police on Sunday picked up girl’s relative, Sajid, who confessed to raping her before strangling her to death.

“The man was picked up after investigation and will be arrested soon. He led our team to the spot where the minor was found dead and confessed to raping and strangling her to death. Parts of her body and her clothes were found scattered suggesting that animals fed on the corpse, as it had been lying in the fields for a long time. The man said he lured her to the fields on the evening of May 22,” the Bhojpur SHO said.

“After searching for the minor and not finding her, her family approached the police. We have already filed an FIR for abduction at Bhojpur police station. The body was recovered 600 metres from her village,” he added.

He said that the minor lived in the same locality as the accused. After recovering her body, the police sent it for post-mortem examination.

However, officers said that the body was recovered in a decomposed state and would also be sent for DNA test. “Since he has already confessed to raping the minor, we will also book the accused for rape as well as sections under the POCSO. The minor’s DNA samples will sent for tests to ascertain her identity,” Vaibhav Krishna, senior superintendent of police, said.
