NEW DELHI: To improve health care services at its medical centres, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation plans to establish affordable ‘dialysis clinics’ at six selected hospitals or dispensaries soon.

These dialysis centres will charge a minimal fee as per Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rates.

The six places where these facilities will be provided include SDMC’S multi-specialty hospital in Kalkaji, Fatehpur Beri, Mehrauli, Bijwasan, Gummanhera and Maharaja Agrasen Polyclinic in Uttam Nagar.

The proposal has been approved by the standing committee on Friday.

After that the civic agency will initiate the process for inviting proposals from corporate hospitals and non-government organisations to set up such centres on public private partnership for five years, officials from the SDMC said.

“We will select the organisation that will offer the facility at minimum rates. At present, the rate for dialysis in private hospital is ₹6,000-₹7,000 and at CGHS centres, the rate is ₹1,200. We will try to bring down these rates to ₹1,000. In lieu of providing these services at a minimum cost, the organisation will keep the money charged from patients,” said senior official from SDMC’S health department.

“The i nitiative aims to increase footfall at our health care centres and help the underprivileged,” the official said.

Each dialysis centre will have four machines installed by the organisation.

“These machines will cater to around four patients every day,” said another SDMC official.

The SDMC has seven polyclinics, three 40-bed hospitals and 14 dispensaries under its jurisdiction, and so far no such facility or machines are available at the polyclinics and health centres.

“Based of the success of the pilot project, we will take a decision on initiating the project at other places,” the official said.
