NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death with a hammer on Sunday night allegedly by a 45-year-old e-rickshaw driver with whom she was in a live-in relationship for the last five days in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, the police said.

The alleged attacker, identified only by his first name Ramvir, was arrested from the crime scene. He suspected the woman of having an affair, the police said.

Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner of police (south), said the woman was attacked on her head and face with an iron tool in a room on the fifth floor of a building where she was living with Ramvir for the last five days. The crime came to their notice around 11pm when the PCR was informed about the murder of a person near Shooting Range check post at Sangam Vihar.

“A team reached the crime scene and found a woman unconscious with injuries on her face and head. One man with blood stains on his clothes was found on the roof of the house,” said Baaniya, adding a case of murder was registered and the suspect, Ramvir, was interrogated.

During the interrogation, the DCP said, Ramvir revealed that he had met the woman five days ago and brought her to his home where they started living together.

“On Sunday night, an argument broke out between the two over the woman’s affair. Ramvir killed her in a fit of rage,” he added.
