NEWDELHI: There has been a 110% jump in the number of women candidates securing admission to the two-year MBA course of Delhi University’s Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) this year.
The Masters of Business Administration (MBA) has a total intake of 226 students. This year, 83 women have already been admitted compared to 39 last year. The admissions will conclude in July end and so there is a possibility of the number going up.
“The latest batch to enter FMS, the batch of 2020, is a testament to the changing times in the field of management education. The batch of 2020 has seen a 110 % increase in the intake of female students for the MBA full-time course,” the FMS media relations cell said in a statement.
This doubles the number of women students in the course over last year. “Last year, 18% of the students in the classroom were women and this year it is 38%,” it said.
One of the reasons for this could be a change in admission criteria this year, a member of the cell said. Till last year, FMS used to give 85% weightage to CAT score and 15% weightage to personal interview and extempore.
This year, the weightage to CAT score has been reduced to 60%. The class 10 and class 12 marks hold of 5% weightage each.
The FMS has also introduced a group discussion round that carries 10% weightage. “The personal interview gets 15% weight- age and extempore 5% weightage,” a member of the cell said.
The member said with class 10 and 12 marks being included in the final results, the score of women candidates has possibly gone higher. “Every year, girls score better than boys and even most of the toppers are girls. This could be a reason,” the member said. This year, out of the four toppers in class 10, three were girls. Girls, with a pass percentage of 88.6, did better than the boys, who registered a pass percentage of 85.32.
Similarly, in class 12, the pass percentage for boys was 78.9 while for girls it was 88.31.
The first and second toppers were girls.
