Will take ODI confidence into Test series, says Root

LEEDS: An off-colour India were outplayed in the ODI series decider, just the performance they would have dreaded ahead of the Test series. To add to their challenge, England Test captain Joe Root went from strength to strength, emerging the Playerthe-series after two hundreds.

Root hit his 13th ODI ton to surpass Marcus Trescothick and help extend England’s unbeaten bilateral series run to 11.“There was no scoreboard pressure because of the hard work the bowlers did in the beginning of the game. It was just about making sure we built a partnership. It’s about putting faith in your game and backing your ability, so I’m happy I have done well in the last two games. I’ll take the confidence into the Tests,” he said.

“The Test series will be exciting. India has played well over the last few years, and we did well against Pakistan recently too, so hopefully we can replicate that in this series as well.”

An example of how things went downhill for India in the last two games was also about how

England overcame the challenge of playing Kuldeep Yadav, who went wicketless on Tuesday. England captain Eoin Morgan said it will be important for Kuldeep to reinvent himself like how England leggie Adil Rashid has.

“It’s hard for me to compare red ball and white ball because it’s different picking the seam on

the ball. I’m very proud of the way we’ve improved throughout. But he (Kuldeep) hasn’t played that many games, I’m sure they’ll come back with something different. Adil’s been at the top of his game for the last few years, but he’s made unbelievable changes -- fractional changes, variations, reading the game well.”
