Two suicide incidents in Shalimar Bagh, Dwarka, probe on

NEWDELHI: A 34-year-old mother of two allegedly committed suicide at her house in Shalimar Bagh in northwest Delhi on Friday afternoon, police said.

Police have arrested the woman’s husband after her family alleged that he used to harass her for dowry.

In another incident, a man allegedly took his own life at his Dwarka house following an ongoing tiff with his wife. His wife had registered a case against him at the Delhi Police’s Crime Against Women cell, police said.

In the first case, the woman, who allegedly killed herself was identified as Balwinder Kaur, who got married about six-andhalf-year ago. The woman has two daughters aged five and two.

According to the police, the incident came to light on Friday when the woman’s father tried to contact her around 10 am but she did not respond to his calls. On this, when the father tried to reach out to her husband Jaspal Singh, who runs a mobile shop in the area, he did not respond.

“On this, the woman’s father came to her house to check on her and found her hanging from a grille in the bathroom at 3 pm. The kids were in house when the woman allegedly hung herself to death,” said a police officer.

Her father rushed her to a hos- pital and called her husband who wasoutforw­ork.the womanwas declared brought dead at the hospital and her body was sent for a post-mortem examinatio­n to ascertain the cause of death.

Police said the woman’s family members have raised alleged that her husband use to harass her for dowry.

DCP (northwest) Aslam Khan said a case under Section 304B has been registered for dowry death and the husband has been arrested. “We will take action based on the statements of her family members, which they will record in front of the SDM. The death is being looked into from all the possible angles,” she said.

In the other incident reported from Dwarka, a man, identified as Dharam Singh, resident of a JJ colony in Sector 16, allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling of his house just two days after his wife, who had registered a case against him with the Delhi Police’s Crime Against Women cell, started living with him again. Police said that the man’s family members have alleged that his wife drove him to death.

A police officer requesting anonymity said the incident took place around 8 pm on Friday. “The post-mortem will ascertain the cause of death. Singh’s wife had lodged a case against him following altercatio­ns between them. They were undergoing counsellin­g,” the officer said.
