Army capt from Dwarka killed in accident near Kurukshetra
CAPTAIN KSHITIZ KALIA WAS POSTED AT HARYANA’S HISAR AND WAS A RESIDENT OF DELHI’S DWARKA
KARNAL: A captain of the Indian army— a resident of south west Delhi’s Dwarka— died while a major was severely injured in a road accident on National Highway 44 near Kurukshetra early Tuesday morning.
The victims were rushed to a private hospital and then to Kurukshetra’s Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital where Captain Kshitiz Kalia (28) was declared dead.
Major Hitesh Kakran, who was also riding in the car, was referred to Chandigarh’s PGIMER.
Preliminary investigation revealed that an undefined heavy vehicle hit their SUV (Jeep Compass) after which it lost balance, Kurukshetra Sadar police station incharge Nirmal Singh told Hindustan Times.
Singh said the captain died during treatment in the private hospital. He added that an army chopper had also arrived to take them to the army hospital for better treatment but the captain had already died.
The vehicle they were riding in was totally damaged and the police had to remove it with the help of a crane. Police said that it had registered an FIR under section 304 A against the unidentified vehicle and had begun a probe to arrest the driver.
Meanwhile, Capt Kalia’s father Virender and mother Neelam had reached Kurukshetra to take his body home.
While the captain was posted at Haryana’s Hisar, the major, a resident of Haridwar, was posted in Jammu. According to police, they were returning from Himachal Pradesh after a vacation.
