Man shoots woman, takes her to hospital
INVESTIGATORS ARE VERIFYING THE CLAIMS OF THE DETAINED WOMAN AND ARE PROBING IF THE VICTIM WAS TRAFFICKED OR SEXUALLY ASSAULTED
NEWDELHI: A woman, a resident of Dilshad Garden, died after being shot in the stomach, police said. The suspected killer got her admitted to Swami Dayanand Hospital before fleeing. She died during treatment at the hospital, police maintained.
Police registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence but are yet to confirm the motive behind the killing.
Police said the suspected killer — who was yet to be arrested till Thursday evening — is also a Dilshad Garden resident and deals in car accessories. Police are questioning another woman, who had allegedly accompanied him and the victim to the hospital.
Though the detained woman has told the police that it was an “accidental firing” and that the incident took place at her house, investigators are verifying her claims and are probing if the victim was trafficked or sexually assaulted.
According to deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav, the woman had sustained a bullet wound to her stomach.
Police said a search of the woman’s clothes revealed a prescription issued by a private hospital nearby, indicating that she had been taken there first. The prescription had a false name, an officer said. “The victim, who was in her mid-20s, hailed from West Bengal and had come to Delhi just three days before her death. She knew the businessman who is currently on the run,” said an investigator, quoting the detained woman.
