GURUGRAM: A27-year-old man committed suicide in a village in Pataudi by hanging from a ceiling fan and streamed it on Facebook Live on Monday evening, police said.

The video shows Jatoli resident Amit Chauhan tying a noose around his neck in a dimly lit room. A senior police officer said that the man had an argument with his wife around 7 pm after which she went to a neighbour’s house along with her two daughters.

Soon after he went live on Facebook from his room on the first floor and made two videos. In the first Facebook live which is recorded for 2.55 minutes, the man is asking his friends to share the video after his death in the camera before setting up the knot and hanging with ceiling fan, later he is seen tying a loop around his neck. In the second Facebook live, which runs for a duration of 66 minutes the man takes the loop of the hanging cloth and suspends himself from it.

Even though 2,300 people watched the live video, nobody raised an alarm or alerted police and family members.

“We received a call from one of the villagers around 10 am and a team from Heili Mandi, which is six kilometers away from Pataudi rushed to the spot. The family had already cremated the body in the village and they said he was mentally disturbed and was undergoing treatment f or l ast six months,” Sumit Kuhar, deputy commissioner of police(crime) said.

The police said they are investigating the case as the family members did not inform the police despite being a suicide case. No case has been registered yet.

EVEN THOUGH 2,300 PEOPLE WATCHED THE LIVE VIDEO, NOBODY RAISED AN ALARM OR ALERTED POLICE

Ashok Chauhan, father of the deceased who lives with his elder son at NSG Manesar complex said they received the information around 9 pm when the wife went to ask for dinner, she was shocked to see him hanging. “He was mentally ill and was taking medicines prescribed by PGIMS doctor, Rohtak. He used to fight with his wife and neighbours every day and he had stopped living with him due to his conduct,” Chauhan said.

Kuhar said he was alone in the room when the incident happened. The family has refused to lodge a complaint and said no one is responsible for his death.

“When the wife returned, she informed the neighbours who saw that the incident was recorded on mobile and he had placed the mobile phone on a table in his room. Later, it was found that victim had gone live on Facebook while taking the extreme step,” he said, adding a probe has been initiated into the matter.
