NEW DELHI: A total of 11 prsons, allegedly from four different gangs, were arrested by the Delhi Police in four separate operations that were carried out between July 27 and July 30, police said on Tuesday. More than a dozen cases of robbery and snatching were solved with their arrest.

In the first operation, the Delhi railways police arrested 28-year-old Israr and his 20-yearold associate Ankur from Vivek Vihar railway station on July 27, soon after the duo, along with their two accomplices thrashed and robbed passengers travelling in a EMU (electrical multiple unit) train at the Old Delhi Railway station.

“The complainant Vivek Kumar Yadav was travelling in the train with his friend Jag Mohan. Four men entered the coach and started robbing the passengers. When Yadav resisted, the robbers beat him up and robbed his cellphone and wallet,” said Dinesh Kumar Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Railways).

A case was registered and two of the four suspects were caught after they were seen at the Vivek Vihar railway station. Yadav’s robbed items were recovered from them. The two were previously involved in several robbery and snatching cases in trains, the police said.

“Israr used to disguise himself by wrapping a black cloth around his head so he looks like a Sikh,” said Gupta, adding police are l ooking for the absconding robbers, identified as Robin and Vikas Nepali.

In two other operations, emergency response vehicles (ERVS) of southeast district police on July 30 chased and arrested six persons while they were fleeing after allegedly committing street crimes in Okhla and Govindpuri areas. Aakash, Pradeep and Suraj were caught by the ERV staff of the Govindpuri police station when they attempted to flee after assaulting a passerby and robbing his mobile phone.

“The ERV staff of the Okhla police station caught Yogesh Kumar, Kundan Yadav, and Riyazul after chasing their auto for almost one kilometre in Okhla Phase-1. The three had assaulted and robbed a passerby of his mobile phone and purse,” said deputy commissioner of police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal.

In the fourth operation, the Najafgarh police station staff caught Aman, Govind, and Sagar when they robbed an ice-cream vendor of ₹1,250, a cellphone and his Aadhaar card on gunpoint. “A motorcycle and a toy pistol that were used in the crime were also recovered from them,” said Anto Alphonse, DCP (Dwarka).
