NEWDELHI: Delhiites got some respite from the sultry heat with moderate rains in parts of the national capital on Sunday, even as waterlogging was reported at a number of stretches. The weather department has predicted similar conditions for Monday.

Rainfall brought down the maximum temperature of the day to 33.0 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season’s average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.4 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal. Humidity levels oscillated between 86% and 94%.

Saturday’s maximum temperature was 36.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees above average while the minimum temperature was recorded at 28.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the average.

“Rainfall was recorded at 40.5mm at the Safdarjung observatory from 8.30am to 5.30pm. The sky will remain generally cloudy. Light to moderate rains or thunderstorm is likely to occur on Monday,” an India Meteorological Department official said.

The weather man said that the maximumandminimumtemperatures on Monday would hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 26 degree Celsius, respectively.

Rainfall triggered traffic problems in parts of New Delhi, the traffic department said. According to officials, waterlogging occurred at several stretches near Modi Mills (Okhla), 100 ft road in Mehrauli, Nangloi, Batra Hospital in Sangam Vihar, Savi- tri flyover, Qutub Minar road, Sainik Farm to IGNOU on the Mehrauli-badarpur Road, Captain Gaur Marg in Okhla, Chhatarpur Road, parts of the Ring Road and Rajouri Garden.

“Though there were some complaints of waterlogging in various parts of the city, the traffic situation remained comparatively normal as it was a Sunday. We received only nine to ten calls of waterlogging,” a traffic official said.

In the first week of July, Public Works Department (Pwd)chief R K Agrawal had directed officers of the department to intimate them about incidences of waterlogging at any location to the centralised control room irrespective of the area’s jurisdiction, and to keep municipal corporations in the loop.
