BJP survey will ascertain popularity of its sitting MPS

NEW DELHI: In the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will conduct a survey to ascertain the popularity of its MPS in their respective constituencies in the national capital. This, party members said, will help the party decide on the candidates.
Confirming the development, a senior leader from the BJP Delhi unit said this is not the first time that such a survey is being conducted.
“As the polls approach, more such surveys would be undertaken over the next few months to understand public demands, issues and also identify new faces, if any, with the high command’s approval. We have already entered the election mode.” the official said on condition of anonymity.
The BJP had won all seven Lok Sabha seats in the city in the 2014 general elections.
According to a top Delhi BJP leader, the pre-poll survey will be conducted by a consultancy firm in September. “The survey will seek to gauge not only the acceptance of the incumbent party MPS in all the seven seats, it will also try to ascertain the impact of the work done by them, and implementation of the BJP government’s schemes and programmes in the last four-and-a-half years,” he said.
“The president of local party unit has the authority to conduct a survey required to strengthen the party,” said Neelkant Bakshi, head of media relations of the Delhi BJP, who is also co-incharge of the social media team.
As part of the survey, party officials said, a standard set of respondents across all seven constituencies will — between September 1 and September 15 — fill questionnaires on the work done by BJP MPS and their accessibility to people.
“The findings of the survey will be shared with the national leadership and the Delhi unit leadership of the party,” the Delhi BJP leader said.
The BJP’S main challenge in Delhi would be from the Congress and the AAP, whose internal surveys have claimed victory for them in most of the seven seats.
“For us, the survey will help select candidates and to prepare our strategy for the 2019 elections,” the leader said, adding it will also clear the air as the “so called” surveys by the AAP and Congress have come to light claiming victory for them.
The AAP, which had failed to win a single seat in Delhi in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, has already announced names of in-charges for the five parliamentary constituencies. Those named have already started prepoll work.
