OLA CABBIE ROBS ANOTHER DRIVER, HELD

NEWDELHI: A 22-year-old graduate, working as an Ola driver, and his three friends were arrested for robbing another Ola driver of his car, last Thursday. All four were arrested on Tuesday.

Police have identified the main accused as 22-year-old Arun Kumar alias Brijesh from Harola in Noida, UP. Police said Kumar roped in his aides Dharambir Singh (24), Sunil Kumar (20), and Pradeep Tomar (33).

Deputy commission­er of police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said on August 23, the robbery victim, Bobby Shukla reported that around 2am, he received a booking for Noida.

“Two passengers boarded his cab. Shukla said when they reached a village in Noida, one of them asked him to stop the car. When he did so, one passenger caught him from behind while the other hit him on the head with a pistol butt, leaving him unconsciou­s,” the DCP said.

Biswal said the men fled with his car. “The GPS of the stolen cab was found switched off. Details about the booking were obtained from Ola,” Biswal said.

Further probe led police to Sunil Kumar. “A raid was conducted at Kumar’s residence and he was arrested. Later, we arrested the others. The car was recovered,” the officer said.

An Ola spokespers­on said, “We regret the unfortunat­e incident that happened with our driver partner. We are in touch with the authoritie­s and will lend our support.”
