11-year-old allegedly raped by BBA student in Gurugram condominium
POLICE SAID THE MAN ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED THE VICTIM INSIDE THE COLONY TWICE IN THE PAST WEEKS
GURUGRAM: A 22-year-old BBA student from private university was booked for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl in a condominium in Gururam’s Sector 84, police said on Thursday. The accused and the victim live in the same residential society in different towers, police said.
Police said t he accused assaulted the victim inside the colony twice in the past few weeks — first on August 17 near a swimming pool and later on August 27 inside the society’s basement.
According to police, the 22-year-old allegedly took the girl to the basement on Tuesday and raped her.
Kanta Devi, station house officer of the women’s police station (south), said the girl’s family approached the residents of the condominium, who went to the police station on Wednesday night to lodge a complaint.
The incident came to light after the locality’s security guards spotted the duo moving towards the basement in the afternoon and alerted the residents’ welfare association members, following which the parents were informed, police said.
A case was registered against the accused under Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at women police station (south), police officials said.
Devi said that the accused has been on the run since the residents took up the matter with the police on Wednesday.
Shakuntala Dhull, chairperson of the child welfare commit- tee, said they counselled the victim on Thursday. “We will call her for a second round of counselling on Monday,” she said.
Police said the accused, a native of Sirhaul, had moved to the condominium over two months ago.
The victim’s family had rented an accommodation in the condominium about three months ago.
The girl studies in a private school in Gurugram. Police said the two had recently become friends on social media.
Police said the girl’s medical examination was conducted on Thursday and her statement was recorded.
