NEW DELHI: The Delhi police has arrested three men and apprehended a minor for allegedly killing two men and injuring three others during a stabbing spree in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Wednesday night. Three knives, a countrymade pistol and a cartridge have been recovered from the possession of the accused, police said on Friday.

Stating that the three arrested accused have been identified as Vishal, Ashu and Suraj, police said the four accused had landed up in Mangolpuri Block-i to kill a man who goes by the name Prince as he had allegedly stabbed their friend, Abhishek, to death on August 20. After undergoing treatment for nine days, Abhishek succumbed to his injuries at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital on Wednesday evening, police maintained.

Rajendra Singh Sagar, additional deputy commissioner of police (outer Delhi), said the arrested men and the minor boy went around stabbing residents of Mangolpuri without any motive. “Those attacked were all innocent residents who were not related to Prince or the alleged attack on Abhishek.”

Maintaining that Vishal -- the prime suspect – was previously charged with cases of attempt to murder, physical assault and outraging a woman’s modesty, a police officer said, “While Vishal and the minor boy were picked up from Avantika Park late Thursday night, Suraj and Ashu were caught from Bhagat Singh stadium in Mangolpuri on Friday.”

During questioning, Sagar said, Vishal disclosed that he planned to take revenge the moment he received information about Abhishek’s death. “He roped in friends and went to the house of Prince’s friend, Rancho. When Rancho’s family members refused to open the door, Vishal and his friends left after threatening them. They looked for Prince in the area but could not find him,” Sagar said.

“While they were looking for Prince, three residents – namely Karanveer Singh, Dinesh Sharma, Vinay and Irshad – stopped them and asked them not to create nuisance. At this, Vishal and the minor boy stabbed the four residents and fled. Meanwhile, when another resident – Suresh – asked Ashu and Suraj to not create a ruckus, they stabbed him too,” Sagar maintained.

Singh and Sharma succumbed to their injuries at Sanjay Gandhi memorial hospital, police said, adding that while Singh painted houses and lived with his wife and four children, Sharma worked at a shoe factory.
