NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son were killed while her husband was injured after being electrocuted at their rented home in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on Saturday morning. Police said the woman’s husband is undergoing treatment and he is out of danger.

A police officer familiar with the details of the case said the family had tied a television cable wire outside their window alongside the house wall to dry clothes. “The cable was in threadbare condition. The exposed part of the cable was touching an electric transformer installed close to the house,” said the officer.

On Saturday, around 9.30 am, the officer said, Rajwati Devi went to make tea for her family members.

As she opened the window, she received an electric shock as current was passing through the window through the broken cable. Her husband, Surender, and son, Amarjeet, were standing outside their home.

“Surender and Amarjeet saw smoke coming out of the window and rushed inside. They too got electrocuted in a bid to save Devi. After some time, the current stopped passing through and they all fell down on the floor. Neighbours rushed all three of them to a nearby hospital where Rajwati and her son were declared brought dead,” said the officer.

A case of death by negligence was registered against unknown persons.
