Crime branch to probe rape case against ACP
NEW DELHI: The crime branch of Delhi Police on Thursday was tasked to probe the rape allegations against assistant commissioner of police Ramesh Dahiya.
The move comes a day after a woman filed a complaint alleging that she had been raped by Dahiya on various occasions following her husband’s death in 2017.
Delhi Police had on Wednesday registered a case against the ACP on the basis of the woman’s complaint. A senior police officer said that in her complaint the woman has mentioned that the policeman knew her husband for the past few years.
The woman’s husband, police said, was a known criminal and was wanted in a few cases under the jurisdiction of Sadar Bazar police station.
“The woman, a mother of five children, in her complaint has said that her husband died in 2017 after which Dahiya started frequenting her house. She has alleged that he promised to marry her stating that he had also lost his wife a few years ago. On the pretext of marrying her, Dahiya then raped her on many occasions,” said a senior police officer.
The complainant has also claimed that she had conceived once after being raped by Dahiya and had given birth to a child earlier this year.
“She said that a few weeks ago, her 17-year-old daughter had complained to her that the policeman had even tried to molest her in the woman’s absence. On this, the woman confronted Dahiya and he threatened her to not lodge a police complaint. Later, he also went back on his promise of marrying her and asked her not to contact him. After this, the woman filed a written complaint against the policeman,” the officer said.
