NEW DELHI: It was a perfect weekend for hundreds of Delhiites who came to the Central Park to listen to songs on politics, religion and environment performed by folk rock band Swarathma.

The Bengalaru-based band, known for using music as a mode of activism and motivation, enthralled the engaging music lovers for more than two hours at the packed landmark in Rajiv Chowk. For regulars, the show was a pleasant surprise and for those who had prior knowledge, it was “an evening well spent”.

The show began with Aasman Ki Dukaan Wale, Khol Tu Apne Dil Ke Taale, a plea to God followed by Yeshu, Allah aur Krishna, a popular song which talks about religious hypocricy.

“Usually we spent time strolling around the park. But today it was different. I had heard about this band but never attended a show before,” said Vinay Pandey, a private company employee.

The show was organised as part of Delhi government initiative – Awam Ki Awaz (Voice of People) – under which a musical concert is organised every month to provide a platform for artists to express dissent through songs and poetry.

The artists struck a chord with the audience as they continued to belt out song after song. Oh Re Manwa, on relationships and jobs issues, evoked a cheering response from the crowd comprising people of all ages sitting in the open-air venue.
