ARCHER DEEPIKA WINS BRONZE IN CUP FINALS

SAMSUN,TURKEY: India’s Deepika Kumari held her nerves in an intriguing play-off to down Lisa Unruh and win the bronze medal in the Archery World Cup Finals here on Sunday. Both the players were tied at 5-5 at the end of five sets, which necessitat­ed a shootoff. Kumari and Unruh both shot 9 but Kumari won bronze because her arrow was closer to the centre. This was Kumari’s fifth World Cup Finals podium.

The Indian archers thus concluded their campaign with two bronze medals.

MORGHA, VARSHA WIN

MUMBAI: Dnyaneshwa­r Morgha and Varsha Devi won the men’s and women’s titles in the Mumbai Half Marathon 2018 by finishing the race with timings of 1:12:03 and 1:29:47 respective­ly at the Jio Garden, BKC.

KAPUR ENDS SIXTH

CHINESETAI­PEI: Shiv Kapur logged a fine top-10 finish after carding two-under 70 on the final day of the Mercuries Taiwan Masters golf. Kapur signed off at tied 6th for a score of three-under 285. It was his second top-10 of the season. Jeev Milkha Singh registered his best finish in nearly two years as he finished at two-over 290 for a tied 18th finish. Gaganjeet Bhullar (72) was T-26th, SSP Chawrasia (76) T-29th while Shubhankar Sharma (78) ended T-42nd.

KADHE EYES NATIONALS

NEW DELHI: Eager to complete some unfinished business, Arjun Kadhe returns to the Fenesta National Tennis Championsh­ip and will start as firm favourite for the men’s singles title when the tournament begins at DLTA from Monday. The 24-year-old reached the final in 2012 and 2013 but lost on both occasions.

HALEP RETIRES HURT

BEIJING: World number one Simona Halep said that she was “worried now” after a persistent back problem forced her out of the China Open after just 31 miserable minutes. The Romanian never looked comfortabl­e against Tunisian qualifier Ons Jabeur before calling it quits.
