NEWDELHI: A 55-year-old man was stabbed to death, allegedly by his neighbour, after he refused to give him money to buy liquor in east Delhi’s Welcome on Tuesday. The man’s body with multiple stab wounds was found near a drain.

The suspect, identified by his first name Nishad, was arrested on Wednesday after investigators learnt that the victim, 55-year-old Mohammad Akhil, was last seen with Nishad.

In another incident, a 45-yearold woman was shot at in front of her husband and children, allegedly by their former neighbour, in northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar on Wednesday afternoon.

The woman was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital, where her condition is said to be critical.

Atul Kumar Thakur, deputy commissioner of police (northeast), said the woman was shot at around 3 pm outside her house. “The former neighbour came to meet the family. He stayed there for sometime and left. A few minutes later, he returned and shot the woman in her chest. Her husband and four children were present when he was shot at,” said Thakur, adding the motive behind the attack would be clear only after police arrest the man.

The attacker, whose name has been withheld by the police because he is absconding, regularly visited the family.

They knew each other for more than 10 years.
