THE TWO SUSPECTS HAD ARRIVED IN A MAHINDRA SCORPIO, A SEARCH OF WHICH LED TO THE RECOVERY OF THE SIX KILOS OF THE DRUGS

NEWDELHI: Two alleged members of a drug cartel have been arrested with six kilograms of heroin worth ₹24 crore in the international market, the Delhi Police special cell said on Friday.

Ikram and Arvind Rana, two friends, were arrested from under a flyover on the DelhiMeerut Expressway, near the Commonwealth Games Village around 12.20pm Friday, Pramod Singh Kushwah, deputy commissioner of police (special cell), said.

The two suspects had arrived in a Mahindra Scorpio, a search of which led to the recovery of the drugs, the officer said, adding that the duo was bringing the narcotics from Bareilly and supplying them to drug dealers in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

“The two men have been in the drug trade for the past 10 years. Over the past one year alone, they have smuggled 80kg heroin into Delhi,” the DCP said.

The officer said the special cell was tracking this interstate gang for the last three months. “We had identified the members of the gang and had their activities under discreet surveillance,” Kushwah said.

The tipoff about the two suspects came on Friday morning after which the police laid a trap near the flyover and waited for the suspects to turn up. The duo was arrested moments after they stepped out of their white SUV, allegedly to wait for their contact.

Over the past one year, the special cell claims to have busted 17 drug cartels and recovered 125 kilos of heroin.
