L-G tells agencies to monitor air quality
NEW DELHI: Delhi lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal on Friday asked the Delhi government and municipal corporations to step up monitoring and take prompt action against violation of norms that could affect air quality.
Air quality levels generally plunge during this time of the year due to changes in meteorological conditions and other factors such as stubble burning and local emissions.
The civic bodies have been directed to start sprinkling of water to control dust pollution and improve sanitation facilities in public places.
The L-G, in a meeting with the Environment Pollution (prevention and control) Authority chairman Bhure Lal, also reviewed the progress of steps taken to improve air quality at the Anand Vihar Inter-state Bus Terminal (ISBT) and the Kaushambi bus depot.
The traffic police have been directed to regulate the movement of buses (entry and exit points) to avoid choking of traffic at the ISBT.
The Northern Railway, which heads operations at the adjoining Anand Vihar Railway Station, was again told to construct an approach road for entry to the ISBT. The railway authorities were asked to ensure sufficient urinals to maintain cleanliness in the area. The three municipal corporations have been asked to coordinate with Delhi Police to stop unauthorised and wrong parking.
