AAP takes on Centre over Gujarat incidents, BJP hits back
NEWDELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday said the Centre will face the heat of the alleged violence against migrant workers in Gujarat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“People of India will give a befitting reply to the BJP in 2019, especially after thousands of north-indian workers were forced to leave Gujarat,” said senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey, who is in-charge of northeast Delhi parliamentary constituency, while addressing a rally Burari.
The ‘Uttar Bhartiya Swabhiman Yatra’ (North Indian SelfRespect March) was organised in Burari on Friday to protest the Gujarat incidents.
Pandey questioned the silence of BJP MPS from Delhi, including Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari.
“It seems like Gujarat government doesn’t know people from UP and Bihar play a significant role in the development of not just Gujarat but elsewhere too,” Pandey said.
Party convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has already requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to stop the violence. “There is a lot of anger among people from UP and Bihar living in Delhi over the developments in Gujarat. Modiji , I request you to take steps to stop it,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi on Thursday.
The BJP hit back and accused AAP leaders of creating a rift between people based on region. “The way AAP and Congress are linking the violence in Gujarat with 2019 Lok Sabha polls is unfortunate. As responsible political parties, we should all work to strengthen the social fabric of India, instead of dividing it,” said Praveen Shankar Kapoor , Delhi BJP spokesperson. NEW DELHI : The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has rejected the Delhi government’s request to allow it to repair roads under the civic body’s jurisdiction. The civic body said the government wanted to “squeeze” the corporation’s powers. A proposal related to this was passed in the north civic body’s standing committee meeting on Thursday.
The civic body had last month asked the Delhi government to release funds for the maintenance of 100 roads less than 60 feet in width but the request was rejected. The government had said the civic body instead should give them a no-objection certificate (NOC) so that they could to repair these roads on their own.
In Delhi, streets less than 60 ft wide are maintained by the civic bodies and the bigger ones by the Delhi government’s public works department. The PWD manages around 1,200 km roads.
The proposal moved by leader of the house of north corporation Tilak Raj Kataria said the Delhi government’s demand for NOC to repair roads under the civic body was “unconstitutional”.
