Taimoor Nagar shooting: Govt to help victim’s family

NEWDELHI: Over two week after a 34-year-old man was shot dead, allegedly by a drug mafia, in southeast Delhi’s Taimoor Nagar, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met his family members and assured that the government will extend all possible help to them.

The members of Rupesh Kumar’s family, who were accompanie­d by AAP Okhla MLA Amanatulla­h Khan, met the chief minister at his residence in Civil Lines in north Delhi.

Following the meeting, Khan said, “The chief minister assured Kumar’s family that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the national capital will take care of the education of his children, provide his wife a job and give the family a compensati­on of ₹5 lakh.”

He maintained that Kumar’s family has also demanded that a road in Taimoor Nagar be named after the victim and that the family be provided a public prosecutor to fight the case in court.

“The chief minister has agreed to all of their demands,” Khan said.

Kumar was allegedly shot dead by two unidentifi­ed men in front of his minor son and a nephew while he was watching them play.

CCTV footage from the area purportedl­y shows Kumar on the streets when two men walking past him. Subsequent­ly, one of them is seen pumping a bullet in his chest.

The shooter, as seen in the video, then casually walks away while the victim, Kumar, falls to the ground.the killing led to protests in the neighbourh­ood.
