CBSE INITIATIVE

-

GD Goenka Public School, East

Delhi, was one of the institutions nominated for a cleanliness campaign by the CBSE. In order to inculcate the value of cleanliness in the present generation, several activities were conducted inside and outside the school. One of them was Segregation in which the students separated the school’s waste material into bio-degradable and non-biodegradable material. Other activities undertaken included cleaning classrooms and surroundings, mowing the grass and a cleanliness drive outside the school. The young Goenkans took part enthusiastically in these activities. They also listened to the address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the subject. He spoke about ways to maintain cleanliness all around. He said it is the duty of each and every individual and specially children to set examples for the others in maintaining cleanliness.

Principal Anupama Chopra praised the efforts of the Goenkans and members of the Eco Club. She said there is no place better than classrooms where students spend seven hours daily to begin the cleanliness drive. The students took a pledge to continue to promote cleanliness.

It is hearwarming that many schools are taking active part in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of the Union government. Efforts need to be made by every citizen and not just the govenment to ensure cleanliness in the country. The government campaign has assumed the shape of a mass movement, but the efforts cannot slacken as a lot more needs to be done in future.
