NEWDELHI: A 38-year-old Haryana government school teacher was shot dead allegedly by unidentified assailants while she was going to the school on her scooter in outer Delhi’s Bawana on Monday morning. The assailants pumped three bullets in her body — two in her chest and one in her upper abdomen, said police.

The scooter of the woman, identified by her single name Sunita from Bawana village, was found two-three metres away from her body. The police suspected that the scooter was moving when bullets were fired at the woman, although they have not found any eyewitness to corroborate it.

The murder took place around 8 am on the main Bawana villageAuchandi border road, barely 50 metres away from the Dariyapur Kalan police chowki, which used to be the building of Bawana police station two years ago.

A murder case was registered at the Bawana police station. The police are probing the case from all angles, including personal enmity, love affair, and family dispute. They have ruled out robbery angle since the woman’s handbag containing cash, mobile phone and other valuables was found at the crime scene.

Sunita’s husband Manjeet Sehrawat, a property dealer, and a few relatives were being questioned in connection with her murder. The police seized a diary from Sunita’s room in which she regularly wrote about her life.

Sunita was a primary teacher at Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School in Ferozpur Bangar village in Haryana’s Sonepat. Her family members said she daily commuted between the school and her home alone on her scooter.

Deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said the incident came to their notice around 8 am when a passerby saw a woman bleeding on the road and called the police control room. By the time a police team reached the spot, some passersby had already moved her to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital in a van. She was declared brought dead at the hospital, Gupta said.

Sunita’s relatives said that like her daily routine she had left home for the school around 7.30 am on her scooter. Around 8.30 pm, a neighbour saw Sunita being taken to the hospital and informed her family members.

DCP Gupta said the police will also look into the facts revealed by relatives and neighbours. The police also suspected that the victim’s husband had an extra-marital affair.
