HARYANA GOVT SAYS REPAIRS ON DSB CANAL COMPLETED

NEWDELHI: The Haryana government informed the Delhi High Court on Monday that they had repaired the Delhi Sub-branch Canal (DSBC) — which carries water to the city, and that water supply had been resumed.

A bench of chief justice Rajendra Menon and justice V Kameswar Rao were informed by the Haryana government that the repairs were entirely complete, even though the counsel for the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) denied such a claim. Following this, the court asked the DJB to file a counter reply to the affidavit submitted by the Haryana government.

The court’s order came while hearing a plea which sought 100% sewage facility in the city. The petitioner, an advocate, SB Tripathi, told the court that the repairs were being delayed, affecting the water supply to Delhi, especially in the sub-city of Dwarka.

On Monday, appearing for the DJB, lawyer Sumeet Pushkarna told the court that the water supply was deficient and had not properly resumed.

The court had earlier asked the state government about the status of repair-work on the old DSBC.

On May 24, the Haryana government informed the court that it had floated tenders for the repairs and that the bidding would be opened in June. They said work was expected to be completed in four months after that.

Haryana has to release 719 cusecs of water per day into the Munak canal and 330 cusecs per day into the DSBC.

The matter will now be heard on February 4 next year.
