NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old woman has alleged that she was abducted in a car from India Gate on Diwali night by four men and then molested.

Police said the woman alleged that the men kept driving around India Gate for more than half an hour and then dropped her on Barakhamba Road before fleeing. Police have registered a case and are probing the allegations.

According to police, a PCR call was received late on November 7 wherein a woman alleged that she was molested in a moving car. A team reached the spot and brought the woman to the Barakhamba police station and an FIR was lodged on her complaint.

A senior police officer, probing the matter, said the statement of the woman was recorded but certain contradictions were noticed.

“Initially, she said the men tried to molest her while they kept driving around India Gate. However, she was not able to clearly mention the details of the incident, such as details of the car or about the accused. The CCTV cameras are also being checked to ascertain her allegations. He medical examination did not reveal rape or sexual assault. We are trying to identify the men,” the police officer, requesting anonymity, said. Deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said a case of abduction and molestation was registered.

“The woman has not alleged rape in her statement. The matter is being probed,” he said.
