Security stepped up in Capital after grenade attack in Amritsar

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have declared high-alert in the capital following the grenade attack at Nirankari Bhawan at Adliwal village near Amritsar’s Rajasansi, in which three persons were killed and around 20 others were injured on Sunday.

While security deployment around Sant Nirankari Samagam Ground in north Delhi’s Burari has been beefed up, police presence at all border points for checking of vehicles entering Delhi, especially from Punjab and Haryana, was increased in the wake of the blast in Amritsar.

Delhi Police spokespers­on Madhur Verma said, “Being the national capital, Delhi remains on alert throughout the year. We have, however, intensifie­d our security apparatus to ensure no untoward incidents take place. All police personnel have been asked to remain vigilant and activate their intelligen­ce gathering networks to collect informatio­n about suspects.”

A senior police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said that two quick reaction teams (QRTS), one anti-terrorist Parakram van, and police pickets have been positioned at each of the two gates of the Sant Nirankari Samagam Ground in Burari.

“Around 50 police personnel have been deployed around the Nirankari ground to keep a tab on suspicious people and ensure the security of the place. The officers from the north district police are monitoring t he arrangemen­ts,” said the officer.

Apart from police from 14 districts , officials from other police units such as special cell and crime branch have also been asked to carry out massive combing operations to nab the sleeper cell agents of various terrorist outfits .
