NEWDELHI: Delhi Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against former Delhi University students’ Union (DUSU) president Ankiv Baisoya for using a “forged” degree to seek admission in the University.

The move comes after a day after the DU authorities filed a police complaint in connection with the matter.

Jasmeet Singh, additional DCP (West), who is currently in charge of north district, said, “A case has been registered under the IPC sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 471 (fraudulently) against Baisoya. We are inquiring the matter.”

Despite several attempts, Baisoya did not respond to any calls and messages made by HT for a comment.

On Monday, KT Sarao, head of the department of Buddhist studies, gave a written complaint against Baisoya to the station house officer (SHO) of the Maurice Nagar police station. Sarao, in his complaint, detailed the correspondence between the DU and the Tamil Nadu-based Thiruvalluvar University.

He said the Tamil Nadu university had confirmed that the marksheet submitted by Bai- soya for admission in DU, were indeed fake.

The department had on November 14 cancelled Baisoya’s admission after receiving a confirmation from the Tamil Nadu-based Thiruvalluvar University that the undergraduate certificate submitted by Baisoya was a “fake”.

Baisoya, a member of RSSbacked Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), was elected as DUSU president on September 13. The ABVP had also suspended him.

Soon after Baisoya’s election, the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) had accused him of submitting a fake degree to secure admission in DU.

NSUI later moved the Delhi High Court seeking cancellation of Baisoya’s admission.
