ACP jumps off police headquarters, dies
NEWDELHI: An assistant commissioner of police died after he allegedly jumped off from the 10th floor of the police headquarters building at ITO on Thursday morning.
Police and the officer’s family said that he had not been keeping well for some time. They said he was upset over his health and had been on a 28-day medical leave. A note was also recovered from him that did not hold anyone responsible for the death.
Prem Ballabh, 55, had won the police medal for meritorious service in 2016 and was promoted as ACP the same year. He allegedly jumped off the window of his office around 10.15 am, five days after he returned from his leave.
Additional public relations officer, Anil Mittal, said Ballabh was found lying near the porch.
“He was posted in the secretarial branch at the headquarters. Ballabh had been admitted to a hospital recently and underwent treatment. During enquiry, a hand-written note written by Ballabh was recovered. In the note, he has clarified that nobody was responsible for his death,” Mittal said.
Shortly after the incident, Rajesh Khurana, joint commissioner of police (central range) held a press briefing and said Ballabh was rushed to Lok Nayak hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.
Preliminary enquiry has shown that the ACP was depressed. He was also undergoing treatment for some illness and had spent some time in GTB Hospital, Khurana said.
