Today’s youth is tomorrow’s future

-

The youth are the most powerful human resource in today’s world. A resource that is spirited — yet willing to be explored and work hard. We have the fire in our bellies to change the face of Earth. We are here to make a difference.

Giving the youth a chance is all it takes, like this wonderful forum, where we can share our thoughts or, the Youth Parliament that we have in schools where we become the governing body and participate in discussions on national and international issues.

There are so many avenues to be explored and so many bridges to be built. But today, I am going to focus on two which I feel are relevant. The first is the issue of “generation gap.” We can organise an open house in school where we can invite parents, teachers, some prominent members of our society and select students from our student body and discuss the issues bothering us.

In this forum we can inform the adults that the youth are not untamed but are full of dreams and ideas. They just need to be understood, guided, encouraged and trusted.

The second area is to bridge the gap between the aged and the youth. All our neighbourhoods have many veterans living a lonely life. I discussed this with my friends and we identified at least one elderly person in our housing societies. We then spent a little time with him/her or ran an errand for them.

They shared their experience and in turn we helped them connect with their children and grandchildren on Skype or face-time. It was almost like adopting a new set of grandparents.

Friends, it is beautiful to see someone smiling but it is even more beautiful if you know you are the reason for that smile.
