U Mumba thrash Delhi in PKL

VISHAKHAPA­TNAM: Continuing their winning streak, title favourites U Mumba thrashed Dabang Delhi 44-19 in a completely one-sided affair of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday.

Once again, U Mumba witnessed an all-round effort as their raiders and defenders put in a convincing display.

Siddharth Desai (12 points) and Rohit Baliyan (8 points) were excellent in the raid department, whereas skipper Fazel Atrachali got a high five and Surender Singh with four points marshalled the defence superbly.

Delhi struggled to get going with Meraj Sheykh having a match to forget.

SINDHU FACES TOUGH ROAD IN TOUR FINALS

GUANGZHOU: P V Sindhu’s bid to end the season with a gold will be a tough one while debutant Sameer Verma too will need to produce his absolute best to make the knockout stage when the BWF World Tour Finals begin here on Wednesday.

Sindhu has been clubbed in a group that includes world No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying, Japan’s world No. 2 and defending champion Akane Yamaguchi and her India Open conqueror Beiwen Zhang.

JAGMEET WINS 400M GOLD IN POLICE MEET

NEWDELHI: Jagmeet Singh of Punjab Police clinched the 400m gold, timing 48.04 seconds, in the All India Police Athletics Championsh­ip, organised by CISF, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday. In women’s 400m, Ayana Thomas of CRPF clinched gold in 54.66 sec. The 1500m gold in the women’s section was won by Khushbu Gupta in 4:22.04 sec.

In women’s triple jump, the gold went to Sonam of BSF who leapt 12.93 metres. Navjot Singh of Punjab Police won the most gruelling event, decathlon, amassing 6816 points.

POONIA NOW AN MLA

NEW DELHI: Beginning a new innings, discus thrower Krishna Poonia, the 2010 CWG gold medallist, on Tuesday won the Sadulpur assembly seat in Rajasthan defeating sitting BSP MLA Manoj Nyangali.

Contesting on a Congress ticket, Poonia won by a healthy margin of 18084 votes after receiving 70020 votes.
