NEW DELHI: Forensic analysis of the body and vehicle of the 34-year-old businessman who was killed in an alleged road rage incident in east Delhi’s Geeta colony on Monday night has contradicted earlier claims that the victim was shot.

Earlier, the police had claimed Sushil Chauhan was shot dead. However, the autopsy report established he was stabbed in his thigh with a knife.

The police had also claimed that one of the “bullets” had deflated one of the victim’s car’s tyres. Crime scene investigators, however, found no bullet hole or bullet in the tyre.

A police officer associated with the case said their claims made on Tuesday about death due to firing were based on the statements that five other occupants of the car had given as eyewitnesses. With the reports now contradicting their claims, the police summoned the five for questioning.

The fresh details have made the police include other possible motives for the murder, apart from possible road rage. The victim’s family had claimed since the crime that the murder was planned and a contract killing.

On Wednesday, the Chauhan’s autopsy report confirmed that he died of blood loss, but that it was caused by a deep stab wound in his left thigh.

“The autopsy report shows that no bullet was found lodged in Chauhan’s thigh. There was only one stab wound and it proved fatal for him,” said Meghna Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara). “We have not ruled any possibility. The allegations that Chauhan’s family members have made are being verified. Our probe so far suggest that the attacker was a local criminal. We have rounded up several such criminals. There are certain leads about the suspect on which our teams are working.”

A resident of Usmanpur in northeast Delhi, Chauhan was driving home with his cousin Ashwani, friend Kartik, and three other women after eating dinner at a restaurant i n Krishna Nagar on Monday. At around 11.30 pm, a scooter grazed the car. Chauhan and the scooter rider stopped and argued following which the rider allegedly killed him.

The first information report (FIR) was filed on Kartik’s statement. The family of the victim later said they suspected his role in the murder.

MAYUR VIHAR INCIDENT

Police are still to make any headway into the murder of 21-year-old Yogesh Kumar that happened on Monday morning outside a store in Mayur Vihar Phase I.

“We scanned footage of around 1000 CCTV cameras installed around the crime spot and the possible routes leading to Ghaziabad and Noida. The footage helped us establish the fact that the suspects fled to Noida. Efforts are on to identify and nab them,” said Pankaj Singh, deputy commissioner of police (east).
