GHAZIABAD: The 9.4-km metro link between Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda (earlier New Bus Stand) received required approvals to commence passenger operations, on Wednesday.

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) completed safety trials to the line, which is an extension of the Red Line of the Delhi Metro.

Officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said this was the final clearance required for passenger operations on the line.

The route is on an elevated section with eight stations — at Shaheed Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala and New Bus Adda.

“We will soon decide a date for inauguration of the project. After this, operations can start. There were no major objections from the CMRS and the minor suggestions they had will be incorporated soon,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said.

AQUA LINE APP

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) on Wednesday launched a mobile application, Nmrctickets, that will enable a commuter to book ticket with ease without standing in long queues. Besides, the app will also help in locating nearby Metro stations on the 29.7km Aqua Line that connects Noida and Greater Noida via 21 stations.

The application, available on Google play store and IOS, will work as a wallet for commuter. For this, the NMRC has tied up with State Bank of India (SBI), officials said.

The newly opened line, which became operational on January 26 this year, has seen a daily average ridership of 11,389 passengers till February 5.

“We have plans to connect these two lines (Blue and Aqua) to ensure a seamless ride once the Blue Line extension starts operations. We have started work on either providing a bus service or launching golf carts/ e-rickshaws for commuters to use,” NMRC managing director Alok Tandon said.
