Gaurav sets course record, Raj in joint lead
HYDERABAD: Bengaluru’s M Dharma and Patna’s Aman Raj moved into joint lead after Round 2 of the season opening Golconda Masters Golf Championship here on Thursday. Placed tied second overnight, both Dharma and Aman shot rounds of seven-under-64 for the second day in succession at the Rs.40 lakh event to reach 14-under-128.
Noida’s Gaurav Pratap Singh produced a 10-under-61 to better the course record at the Hyderabad Golf Club (HGC) by one shot. He is tied fourth. Bengaluru’s Chikkarangappa, a two-time winner on the international circuit, also fired 64 to occupy third at 13-under-129.
TVESA WINS THIRD LEG
AHMEDABAD: Tvesa Malik carded one-over 73 to claim her first title of the season in the third leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour here on Thursday. Tvesa, who started the day with an eightshot lead, almost doubled that as the rest of the field floundered on a difficult scoring day at the Kensville Golf & Country Club.
PUNJAB ENTER SEMIS
GWALIOR: Defending champions Punjab along with Railways, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board and Punjab & Sind Bank entered the semi-finals of the Senior National Hockey Championship here on Thursday. Punjab beat Haryana 3-0 in the first quarter-final with India internationals Akashdeep Singh (46th & 54th) and Ramandeep Singh (25th) finding the target.
JHARKHAND FACE UP
KOLLAM (KERALA): Hockey Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh Hockey, Hockey Haryana and Hockey Mizoram won their respective quarterfinals to enter t he Hockey India Junior Women National Hockey Championship 2019 (A Division) semis. While Jharkhand beat Chandigarh 5-4, UP defeated Maharashtra 3-0.

NEWDELHI: Cavalry-asc defeated APRC-NAVY7-3 ½ in a Cavalry Gold Cup (10-goal) polo tournament here with Ravi Rathore scoring four goals. Jindal Panther overcame Garcha GroupAravali Polo 7-6 ½ with Tom Brodie scoring six goals. Five teams are competing in the tournament being played in half-league with cross semi-final format.
CHENNAI SPARTANS WIN
KOCHI: Chennai Spartans put up a dominant show to thump Black Hawks Hyderabad 4-1 (15-12, 15-12, 15-11, 15-10, 13-15) in their second outing in the all-play-all league phase of the Pro Volleyball League here on Thursday. The Spartans bounced back in style from their opening round defeat to Calicut Heroes to tame Hyderabad, who had edged out Ahmedabad Defenders 3-2 in their season opener. Jacob (16 points), Sorokins (13), Verhoeff (10) and Akhin (8) were the leading scorers for Spartans, who next play Kochi Blue Spikers on February 11 while Hyderabad next take on Kochi on Friday.
