10-year-old girl raped in govt school in Shahdara

NEWDELHI: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped within the premises of the Shahdara government school she was studying in on Tuesday by a 38-yearold man employed as a sweeper. The police said the girl’s parents approached the police on Saturday, after which the suspect was arrested and sent to jail.

According to the police, the assault came to light when the girl’s health deteriorated, since she stopped eating after returning home from school on Tuesday.

The girl, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, lives at her relative’s house in northeast Delhi, the police said.

East Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor Bipin Bihari said the services of the suspect, a daily wage sanitation staff with the corporation, have been terminated with immediate effect.

In October last year, a fiveyear-old girl was allegedly raped by the driver of her school van in Delhi in Rohini’s Shahbad Dairy.

In August last year, a class two student of a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) school in the upscale Gole Market area was allegedly raped by an electrician on the institute premises.
