Annual financial support for classes 11-12, college students
AN ANNUAL SUPPORT OF ₹1,000 WILL BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS OF CLASSES 11 AND 12 AND ₹5,000 TO THOSE ENROLLED IN COLLEGES
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Wednesday announced an annual support of ₹1,000 to class 11 and 12 students of its schools and ₹5,000 to those enrolled in its colleges as a part of its “entrepreneurship mindset curriculum”.
The announcement was made by Delhi deputy chief minister and education minister Manish Sisodia during the launch of the “entrepreneurship mindset curriculum” on Wednesday.
The curriculum will be taught to students of classes 9-12 in Delhi government schools from the academic session 2019-20.
“The Delhi government has decided to give annual entrepreneurial seed money worth ₹1,000 for children of classes 11 and 12 and ₹5,000 to those studying in Delhi government-run colleges. The idea is to encourage stu- dents to materialise their ideas and give them a concrete shape while working in groups. The cost of this scheme — ₹40 to 50 crore — will be allocated by the government from the next financial year,” he said.
At the launch event of the curriculum, entrepreneurs such as MDH founder Dharampal Gulati, Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal and founder of Krishna pickles Krishna Yadav narrated their success stories and told the audience how they provided jobs to thousands of people.
“The nation’s economy is not built by job seekers but by job providers. So, an entrepreneurial mindset is required for all professionals to be successful in their career. Success stories of various professionals and public servants testify it.” Sisodia said.
This curriculum intends to develop an “entrepreneurship mindset” among students. “We want to create abilities like recognising opportunities, taking risk and bouncing back from failures. The curriculum will be taught by activities and stories. There will be no books. There will be no examination to evaluate students. The focus will be directly to monitor and observe the entrepreneurship mindset of the students,” the education minister said.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is preparing the syllabus. The government, meanwhile, asked the teachers to give their inputs on how to make the programme interactive.
