NEW DELHI: Three months after the Delhi Metro curtailed announcements inside trains on the Magenta Line (Botanical Garden-janakpuri West) on a trial basis after commuters complained of “excessive broadcast”, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to go back to the public to take the final call.

The Delhi Metro began a feedback session from Sunday, asking commuters whether they would want the announcements be curtailed in other lines as well. Commuters can registerr their suggestions with the DMRC on their Twitter and Facebook handles, or they cann also log into the official website www.delhimetrorail.com and click on the feedback form.

The feedback option will be open till May 31.

From February, this year, the Delhi Metro had decided to cut back on the number of announcements made inside the trains. The move was implemented on trail basis on the Magenta Line.

“We were getting suggestions from commuters saying that excessive announcements can be done away with, now that people are largely familiar with the Delhi Metro network so we thought to trying out how that works in one line for three months.

If it has worked out with people we will implement the restrictions to other lines,” said a Delhi Metro spokesperson on Sunday.

The official said that once a commuter logs into their feedback form page, they only have to enter their name, contact number, smart card number and fill in their suggestions in less than 50 words before they submit their feedback.

Delhi Metro officials said that before this trial, 34 audio and video announcements are made during the 57-minute journey on the Magenta Line. The audio announcements were reduced to seven.

Announcements welcoming commuters to the metro, and urging them to use smart cards and deposit tokens on exit fall in this category. Officials said that they, however, continued to make these announcements inside metro stations.

Only ‘important and mandatory’ announcements such as informing passengers of the next station, direction of the door opening, destination station and terminal station was made. “We have and we will also continue to make announcement informing passengers of any delays or technical issues, because that is part of our protocol,” the spokesperson said.
