JD(U) MP’S WIFE FILES PLEA IN TOP COURT SEEKING PERMISSION TO LIVE WITH HIM

-

NEW DELHI: The curious case of Janata Dal (United) Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Prasad, aka King Mahendra, and his unique family arrangement reached the Supreme Court on Monday. Uma Devi, 66, whose petition identifies her as the wife of Prasad, 80 — it claims they were married in 1973 — filed a petition in the court seeking permission to live with her husband, and take care of him. Prasad is a seventime member of the upper house and owns one of the country’s largest pharmaceutical companies, Aristo Pharma. In July, a man called Ranjit Sharma , the son of Mahendra Prasad and Satula Devi (who he claimed was the MP’S wife) filed a petition in the Delhi high court claiming his mother was being wrongfully confined and also abused in the MP’S house. The court ordered in an interim judgment on September 6, that Satula Devi be moved from the MP’S official residence on Safdarjung Road in Lutyens Delhi to his private house in Vasant Kunj. By way of a final judgment on September 20, it asked Delhi police to probe the allegations. According to Uma Delvi’s petition in SC, Mahendra Prasad has three children from Satula Devi, who has been living with the MP and his wife Uma Devi in the same house. The petition adds that the HC had exceeded its jurisdiction in its judgment and that the MP needs constant care as he suffers from age related ailments. The petition also alleges that the petition filed by Satula Devi’s son in Delhi HC was motivated and that Ranjit Sharma has designs on the property of the MP which is worth around ~4000 crore. Uma Devi lawyers refused to comment on the matter saying the matter was sub judice. HT reached out for a comment at the official residence of Mahendra Prasad, but no one was available for comment.
