Complaint against BJP women’s wing head for ‘misbehaviour’

NEW DELHI: With the assembly elections just a few months away, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is grappling with issues of indiscipline in its Delhi unit.

On Wednesday, a group of BJP members from Kirari assembly constituency complained against Poonam Jha, the Delhi BJP’S women’s wing head, to the party leadership.

Two BJP councillors and some office-bearers from the constituency wrote to Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari citing a recent incident in which Poonam, they alleged, misbehaved with them. The BJP workers engaged in a fisticuff during a BJP event in Kirari.

The event, organised for Monday, was supposed to tell the public about the efforts made by the Bjp-led central government to give ownership rights to residents of unauthorised colonies. Former Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay was to speak at the event. But he left the event following heated arguments between the local leaders.

“There was some problem between local leaders. I told them that if they don’t resolve the issue then I’d leave. I left the event without addressing the gathering as the issue wasn’t resolved,” said Upadhyay.

In the letter, the BJP officebearers from Kirari assembly constituency alleged that Poonam and her husband, Anil Jha, had been misbehaving with the local party workers. Anil Jha is the former MLA from the area.

While Anil Jha couldn’t be contacted, Poonam said, “The incident did take place. But I’ll only answer to my party’s leadership.”

Pratyush Kanth, media incharge, Delhi BJP, said, “All party workers who were involved in the scuffle had met Tiwari. He heard their concerns and saw the evidence furnished by them regarding the incident. Party leadership will soon decide on the matter.”

A week ago, BJP’S Mehrauli district president Azad Singh was removed from his post after a video went viral where he is seen slapping his wife, an ex-south Delhi mayor, at the party’s Delhi office after a pollpreparedness meeting with senior leader Prakash Javadekar.
