Will comply with govt order to avoid surge pricing: Uber, Ola

-

NEW DELHI: Taxi aggregators Ola and Uber have said they will not charge surge rates during the odd-even road rationing scheme that starts on Monday.

On November 1, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that his government has engaged with taxi aggregator services on the matter, and they had assured him that no surge rates would be charged during the oddeven scheme.

In a statement issued Saturday, Ola said it will extend its support to Delhi government’s initiative to curb pollution. It added that the company will also work closely with its driver-partners to ensure maximum availability of vehicles during peak hours and staggered office timings.

“Continuing our efforts to provide commuters an optimum and seamless experience, we will have no peak pricing on rides booked on the Ola platform during the odd-even period. We encourage all driver-partners, passengers, and citizens to participate and make the third edition of the scheme a success,” an Ola spokesperson said.

In a statement Saturday, Uber said it supports the scheme and aims to ease daily commutes.

Commenting on the initiative, an Uber spokesperson said, “The odd-even scheme is a much needed step to reduce pollution and congestion as well as New Delhi’s carbon footprint and we whole-heartedly support the government’s move. Uber will do everything possible to ensure movement around the city is easy during the odd-even phase. During this period, we will encourage commuters to use public transport along with our shared services like Auto, Moto and Pool for better first/last-mile connectivity and to ensure reliable, safe and affordable commuting.”
