His speech is more dangerous than Kanhaiya’s: Shah
RAIPUR: Slamming Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Sharjeel Imam, who was booked under the charge of sedition and arrested Tuesday from Bihar, Union home minister Amit Shah said that Imam was more dangerous than Kanhaiya Kumar, former JNU Students’ Union president who also spent time in jail over sedition charge.
“Have you seen Sharjeel’s video? It is more dangerous than Kanhaiya Kumar’s statement. He is talking about cutting ‘the chicken’s neck’ to disintegrate Assam from India…” Shah said.
Imam was wanted by the police in Delhi, besides five other states, on charges of sedition, among others, for his speech outside Jamia Millia Islamia, a video of which went viral. In the video, Imam allegedly calls for “blocking the chicken’s neck”— a strip of land in West Bengal which connects the mainland with northeastern states. Shah asserted that Muslims born and living in the country will not lose their citizenship due to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
“I assure you that there is no question of Muslims born and living in the country losing their citizenship due to this legislation. This Act is meant to grant citizenship, not snatch it… But they (Opposition parties) are spreading apprehensions, provoking minorities and instigating riots,” the Union home minister said.
Taking a swipe at Congress, Shah said, “Rahul Baba (Rahul Gandhi), let me know if there is even a single provision in the Act regarding the withdrawal of anyone’s citizenship.” In response, Congress spokesperson and senior party leader Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said, “The CAA is a divisive Act and any law which spreads hatred will not be encouraged in the peaceful state of Chhattisgarh.”
Attacking Delhi chief minister, Shah said, “Kejriwal says BJP has a love for Pakistan. I want to tell him don’t teach us patriotism… Two years back slogans were raised to break India… Immediately, Modi decided to put ‘Kanhaiya Kumar and company in jail’…it has been one-and-ahalf years and sanction to prosecute them is still pending before Kejriwal government.”
