nNEWDELHI:: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday postponed the class 12 board exams scheduled for Thursday in 73 centres in northeast Delhi and seven centres in east Delhi.

It was the second day in a row when the board had to postpone exams in riot-hit areas of northeast Delhi. The board is yet to announce a date for the retest.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, CBSE secretary Anurag Tripathi said, “Based on the request of the directorate of education (DOE) and the government of Delhi, and to avoid inconvenience to students, staff, and parents, the board decided to postpone the following subject exams scheduled for 27.02.2020 in the north-east part of Delhi.”

“However, the exam in rest of Delhi shall be conducted as per schedule. The next date of exam for affected students will be notified shortly,” he added.

The exams that were postponed were English Elective, English C and English Core.

The Delhi government also announced that all private and government schools in violencehit areas of north-east Delhi and some parts of east Delhi will continue to be closed on Thursday. The government also decided to postpone all internal examinations scheduled in schools across north-east Delhi on Thursday.

“The present situation in the North-east District and some parts of East District is not favourable for the conduct of examination. To avoid inconvenience to students, staff and parents, all the schools under Northeast district and three schools in East district — SBV Kanti Nagar (1001004), GGSSS Kanti Nagar (1001024) & SKV No. 1, Bhola Nath Nagar (1001018) —will remain closed on 27.02.2020. The date of Home Exam scheduled to be held on 27.02.2020 will be announced later on for these schools,” said Saroj Sain, additional director (school/exam).

Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court had asked the CBSE to take a decision on rescheduling board exams to be held in centres in violence-hit northeast Delhi by 5 pm and to inform the public by 6 pm.

The court said class 10 and 12 students, who have examination centres in these areas, need to be informed in one go about the schedule for the next 10 to 15 days and not on a piecemeal basis. The court said the situation is worsening and there have been more deaths and therefore, CBSE needs to take a call for the next 10 to 15 days.

THE DELHI GOVT ALSO ANNOUNCED ALL PRIVATE, GOVT SCHOOLS IN VIOLENCE-HIT AREAS OF NORTH-EAST DELHI AND SOME PARTS OF EAST DELHI WILL BE CLOSED ON THURSDAY
