nNEW DELHI: BJP MLAS on Monday met Delhi lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal and demanded a high-level inquiry into what they said was an “international conspiracy” behind the riots in north-east Delhi.

Headed by Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly, the delegation submitted a memorandum that focused on the timing of the riots.

“The timing of the riots coincided with the arrival of President Trump. It smacks of international conspiracy. Its sole aim was to tarnish the image of India among the international community. It is essential to expose international and national forces conspiring against the nation. We have demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter,” Bidhuri said.

Referring to the rumours circulating on Sunday, which led to panic in several parts of the city, Biduri said, “The way rumours were spread yesterday evening, it is possibly part of the conspiracy. The design was to provoke violence, leading to riots during the ongoing session of Parliament.”

Pointing to a “large stock of weapons” during the riots, he said, “It appears a large stock of weapons was collected much before the riots started. It is apprehended that weapons are still hidden in riot-affected areas. It is essential that the mafia behind the weapons should be exposed,” he said.

The memorandum demanded that the cost of loss of property should be recovered from the culprits.
