Coronavirus effect: Azlan Shah hockey postponed to September
NEW DELHI: The Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament became the latest sporting event to be affected by the novel coronavirus outbreak in Asia, pushed from April to September in the wake of the deadly disease spreading across the world. The tournament, which was scheduled to be held in Ipoh, Malaysia from April 11 to 18, will now be held from September 24 to October 3, the organisers said in a statement. India, a regular at the event, were not due to participate this year.
SQUASH MOVED TO JULY
CHENNAI:TWO squash events -- the Asian Team Championships in Malaysia and the Asian Junior Individual Championships in China -- have been postponed due to coronavirus outbreak.
The Asian Team Championships was scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from March 25 to 29, while the Asian Junior Individual Championship was to be staged in Quingdao, China from June 29 to July 3.
MOTOGP PUT OFF
Bangkok: thailand’s Motogp was postponed over the new coronavirus as motorcycling’s premier championship took its second hit in two days from the deadly outbreak. A day after the seasonopening Qatar Motogp was axed, Thailand organisers postponed the March 20-22 race in Buriram without setting a new date.
ASIAN WALK PUT OFF
NEW DELHI: The Asian 20km Race Walk Championships in Japan scheduled for March 15, where 13 Indians were to take part, has been cancelled due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. Tokyo Olympics-bound Bhawana Jat was to lead the Indian challenge in the event earlier scheduled to be held in Nomi city. The decision to cancel the championship was taken after a request from the Japan federation.
