PM urges people not to travel out of town
nNEWDELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people on Saturday to not travel out of their towns on Sunday, when the country is expected to heed his call for a voluntary curfew in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19)/
In a series of tweets, the PM said: “Never forget - precautions not panic! It’s not only important to be home but also remain in the town/ city where you are. Unnecessary travels will not help you or others. In these times, every small effort on our part will leave a big impact”.
“This is the time we should all listen to the advice given by doctors and authorities. All those who have been told to stay in home quarantine, I urge you to please follow the instructions. This will protect you as well as your friends and family”.
The prime minister also urged those who came to cities in search of livelihood not to rush back to villages and said this could increase the spread.
The appeals came on a day when the country logged the largest single-day jump, with the total number of infected crossing 300.
Appreciating IT professionals and workers for providing their services to fellow citizens, the Prime Minister said their outstanding role in combating COVID-19 will be remembered for years to come.
“They are heroes. They’re phenomenal individuals whose outstanding role will be remembered for years to come,” the PM said.
“India is extremely proud of our IT professionals who are working hard to provide seamless services to fellow citizens,” he added. The “janta curfew” will be held on Sunday from 7 AM to 9 PM.
