GURUGRAM ADMIN ON SATURDAY NIGHT ALSO DECIDED TO SHUT ALL NON-ESSENTIAL MANUFACTURING UNITS

nGURUGRAM:AN 18-year-old man, a resident of Bestech Park in Palam Vihar, and a 46-year-old woman, who lives at Laburnum in Sushant Lok, Phase 1, tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, taking the number of patients to six in Haryana. Gurugram on Saturday also decided to shut all non-essential manufacturing units.

All six coronavirus positive cases so far have been reported from Gurugram, in this week.

The 18-year-old is the youngest to be contracted the infection in the city till now and is the brother of a 22-year-old woman, who had tested positive on Thursday.

Health officials said she returned from London on March 14.

The health department took three samples from the Palam Vihar family on March 17 after the woman, a student of international marketing, complained of sore throat, cough, and fever, and approached the rapid response team constituted by the district health department on March 16. Her sample was taken in Civil Hospital, Sector 10. The health team also collected a sample from one of the nearby house to check community transmission.

“Two cases were confirmed positive on Saturday morning,” said Dr Jaswant Singh Punia, chief medical officer. “The 18-year-old boy is an immediate contact of a confirmed Covid-19 case undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The 46-year-old woman had travelled to the UK and returned this week. We are still tracing the contacts in her case” said Punia.

An RWA member from Laburnum said, “The lady is admitted to a private hospital. The health team visited the family on Friday and collected their samples.”

To keep a check on community transmission, the health department has increased the number of samples sent for testing. On Friday, more than 40 samples were being sent to PGIMS, Rohtak for testing. “Contact tracing of confirmed Covid-19 positive cases becomes critical in controlling the community transmission of the virus,” said Rajeev Arora, state’s additional chief secretary, health department.

Meanwhile, the Gurugram administration on Saturday ordered the closure of all private organisations and manufacturing units categorised as non-essential services from Sunday till March 31. An advisory released on Saturday said “all private, corporate establishments and factories to be completely shut down other than the permitted list.”
